ABOUT ME

My name is Ronald van den Berg. I was born in the legendary winter of 1979, on the 26st of January. The first days of my life I spent in a hospital in Leeuwarden and then I moved to Wartena, a small village in the north of The Netherlands.

After finishing secundary school, I decided to move to Groningen. I studied computing science there (finished) and also some philosophy (not finished; perhaps later). Except for a 6-month excursion to Norway to do my Master's thesis, Groningen is where I have been living the past 8 years.

That's me!

After obtaining my computing science degree I became interested in perception and neuroscience. I applied for a new top-master's study at a neuroscience research school (BCN) in Groningen. I was admitted, but - unfortunately - the study was cancelled two months before it was about to start. Consequently, I wandered around for about a year, mainly at BCN's neuroimaging centre as a research assistant in Frans Cornelissen's vision research group. In 2003 I started as a PhD student on a project about perceptual issues in information visualisation, combining my background as a computing scientist with my interests in the foundations of perception.

For more information about my scientific activities, please consult the 'science' section of this website. For a glance at my personal interests and doings, consult the 'personal' section.
